For a hard reset, you can pull out the battery while the phone is still on, leave it out for 30 seconds, and then put it in. Go to options>security options>general settings, and then hit menu.

Press the "Restart" button at the bottom-right of the display. There's more than one way to do a hard reset, here are the options: Option 1: Power off the device, then power up again.
