William Brooks Close (1853–1923) was a British businessman active in the Midwestern United States. He first arrived in the United States during the summer of 1876 to compete in a regatta in Philadelphia while he was the president of the Cambridge University Boat Club.
Among these was William Brooks, known as W.B., the sixth Close child, who was born in 1853. When W.B. was 12 years old, James Close died, and W.B. and his brothers were sent to school in England.
William Brooks Close dies and in his will stipulates that Close Brothers should be wound up and a new company formed to carry on the business under the same name. 1934 Arthur Martens was appointed a director, and subsequently became chairman in 1940.
