Terry, born in the midst of the Great Depression, was trained and owned by Carl Spitz. [2][3] She was the mother of Rommy, another movie Cairn terrier, who appeared in other films including Reap the Wild Wind (1942) and Air Force (1943). [4] .
Carl Spitz (August 26, 1894 – September 15, 1976) was a Hollywood dog trainer, most famous for owning and training the female Cairn Terrier Terry, who portrayed Toto in the 1939 MGM fantasy film The Wizard of Oz.
Due to the popularity of the film, Terry's owner changed her name to Toto. Toto now has a memorial at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The dog's IMDb page is pretty impressive.
