John Clarence "Bucky" Egan (September 8, 1915 – April 16, 1961) was an American pilot who served with the 100th Bomb Group of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and later with the United States Air Force in the Korean War.
Aug 25, 2024 · John Clarence “Bucky” Egan was a pilot in the 418th Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group. He was an original member of the 100th, and initially served as its Operations Officer. In June 1943 Egan took over command of the 418th Bomb Squadron, leading his B-17 Flying Forteresses on 12 missions, including to Regensburg on 17 August 1943.

Jan 26, 2024 · What did John Egan do during the Second World War? In June 1943, Major Egan took command of the 418th bomb squadron in the Hundredth. He would fly a dozen missions, usually as co-pilot, and in between could be found in the pub singing songs with the locals.
During the Korean War, Egan was commander of the 67th Reconnaissance Group, 5th Air Force in Korea. While in Korea, he flew B-26 bombers in close support missions against North Korean ground forces. Egan later became director of operations for the Pacific Air Force while stationed in Hawaii in 1956.
