Louis "the Lump" Pioggi (24 April 1889-15 May 1969) was a Five Points Gang member and the murderer of Max Zwerbach and Vach Lewis in 1908.
Louis Pioggi was born on 24 April 1889, and he worked as a hospital clerk in Coney Island, New York City. Pioggi later joined the Italian Five Points Gang under Paul Kelly, and he grew angry at Max Zwerbach due to a romantic rivalry. On 14 May 1908, Pioggi and a few Five Points Gang hitmen killed Zwerbach and Vach Lewis as they left a local restaur...
His rivalry with the Five Points gang ultimately cost him his life in May 1908 when he and one of his men were shot to death at Coney Island by “Louis the Lump” Pioggi.
He was a known associate of Louis Pioggi, aka Louie the Lump, who had murdered Zelig's mentor, Kid Twist Zwerbach, four years earlier. Zelig had been released on $1000 bail after his arrest for "shooting up the saloon" of Pioggi's brother Jake. [2]
