The Thief of Bagdad is a 1940 fantasy film directed by Ludwig Berger, Michael Powell, and Tim Whelan. The film follows a young thief named Abu, portrayed by Sabu, who teams up with the deposed King Ahmad, played by John Justin, to reclaim Ahmad’s throne.

He’s gluttonous and selfish, although when Ahmad needs help, Abu reluctantly gives him whatever he needs (the advantage of dividing the romantic lead and the real hero is that they’re at least a little conflicted).
