The Fallen One was originally a Herald of the cosmic entity Galactus, and was his first attempt at creating a servant. Unlike later Heralds, the Fallen One was empowered by dark energy as opposed to cosmic radiation.
The Fallen One's powerful energy attack devastated Thanos' giant ship, sending him plummeting to the surface of the planet below. Surviving unscathed, Thanos and his new ally Skreetoverpowered the Fallen One, sending him into the core of the gas giant and ignited it.

- The Fallen One. It is believed that Galactus' first Herald was the being now known simply as the Fallen One. Like the Heralds that would follow him, the Fallen One was given a small fraction of the Power Cosmic; however, the Fallen One was too hostile and unpredictable for Galactus to control, so the World Devourer eventually imprisoned him.
- Unknown Herald. In A.D. 1582, an unidentified Herald accompanied Galactus when the Devourer of Worlds targeted Earth for the very first time. They landed in Rome, Italy.
- The Silver Surfer. When Galactus threatened to consume Zenn-La, one inhabitant, Norrin Radd, offered to become the World Devourer's servant if Galactus would spare his homeworld.
- The Air-Walker. Searching for a suitable replacement for the Silver Surfer, Galactus eventually chose Gabriel Lan, the Xandarian captain of the Way-Opener, an exploration vessel, to become his next Herald.
