Jesse Gemstone is one of the main characters in the series, The Righteous Gemstones. He is the oldest son of Dr. Eli Gemstone and Aimee-Leigh Gemstone. He is portrayed by actor and show creator, Danny McBride, his younger version is played by J. Gaven Wilde.
The Gemstones are a family of televangelists and megachurch pastors led by widowed patriarch Eli and his children, Jesse, Judy and Kelvin. Two masked individuals blackmail Jesse for a million dollars, threatening to release a video of him and his buddies engaged in lewd behavior at a private party.

- Dr. Eli Gemstone (John Goodman) Dr. Eli Gemstone is the face and long-time leader of the Gemstone family. He is the head pastor of the Gemstone Salvation Center which he started with his recently deceased wife Aimee-Leigh whom he regularly prays to and tries to make proud.
- Jesse Gemstone (Danny McBride) Eldest son Jesse Gemstone is the whole gosh darn reason this crew got into this blackmailing mess! He’s quick to give in to temptation and has enjoyed his fair share of vices (including sex, drugs, and alcohol) but is trying to put that behind him to be a better family man for his wife Amber and three ungrateful sons, Gideon, Pontius, and Abraham.
- Judy Gemstone (Edi Patterson) Judy Gemstone, the black sheep of the family, suffers from a serious case of middle child syndrome. She does her best to fit in and make her mark as the only daughter in the Gemstone family but is constantly being overlooked by her brothers and father.
- Kelvin Gemstone (Adam Devine) As we learn in a flashback episode, Kelvin wasn’t expected (or wanted) by his siblings Jesse and Judy. Now as an adult, Kelvin specializes in connecting with the youth members of the church and spreading the word of the Lord to those who need it most.
Jesse Stone is the lead character in a series of detective novels written by Robert B. Parker. They were among his last works, and the first series in which the novelist used the third-person narrative.
- Eli. Gemstone family patriarch and founder of Gemstone Ministries, there is little doubt that Dr. Eli Gemstone loves his family. Goodman's portrayal of the megachurch pastor as a firm leader is balanced out by his vulnerability when he reminisces about his wife Aimee-Leigh.
- Kelvin. For fans of Workaholics veteran, Adam DeVine, his portrayal of Jesse and Judy's younger brother Kelvin is fun to watch. Kelvin begins to question his purpose in the church and leaves during a crisis of faith, before returning to his youth ministry shortly after.
- Baby Billy. Baby Billy Freeman is one of The Righteous Gemstone's best characters. Flamboyant and over-the-top, Baby Billy longs for the good old days when he was a child country music star with his now-deceased sister Aimee–Leigh.
- Jesse. Jesse Gemstone is poised to follow in his father's footsteps as the head of the Gemstone family's evangelical empire. Despite being a man of God, Jesse is beyond flawed and doesn't always take the high road which is why, though Jesse is the star, he isn't the most likable member of the cast or his family.
