Swedish writer and director Roy Andersson creates a surrealistic drama about a society in tragic collapse with Songs from the Second Floor. It opens with a citation from the Peruvian poet César Vallejo: "Blessed are those who sit down", and Andersson uses it ironically to drive his points home—he also dedicates the film to the wordsmith.
