The position has been open since former director Douglas Martin’s departure in 2019; executive director Julie Diana Hench has been assuming artistic duties in the interim.

In 2017, she became the executive director of American Repertory Ballet and Princeton Ballet School in New Jersey. After artistic director Douglas Martin left in 2019, Diana also took over the artistic duties until Ethan Stiefel became the company's artistic director in July 2021.
