Sidney Herold Lazard (December 18, 1930 – November 3, 2015) [1] was an American business leader in the oil and gas industries and a champion contract bridge player. He attended Tulane University and was a lifelong New Orleans resident until 2001, when he moved to Dallas, Texas.
His father, Sidney Lazard, is a former foreign correspondent, and his mother, Julie (née Thayer), is a photographer. In 1974, the family relocated to Paris where his father was stationed by ABC News.

Nov 3, 2015 · Among his many contributions to bridge, Lazard founded the Lazard Sportsmanship Award in memory of his son, Sidney Lazard, Jr., who died in 1999. Each year a committee selects one competitor who has distinguished himself or herself with class, dignity, graciousness, and generosity in victory.
