Early records show that in Norman times Ramsbottom was part of the Forest of Rossendale. There are a number of Bronze Age burial sites around the town, the most notable of which is Whitelow Cairn, one mile (1.6 km) southeast of the town centre and three miles (4.8 km) north of Bury.
The Peel Monument at Ramsbottom, Lancashire, England, is one of two monuments in the area erected in memory of Prime Minister and founder of the police force Robert Peel, who was born in Bury. [1] [2] It is on Harcles Hill near Ramsbottom, 1100 feet (335 metres) above sea level. [3]
