    • Evan Williams. According to Explore Kentucky History, Evan Williams is said to be the first commercial distillery in Kentucky. Evan Williams himself came to Louisville, Kentucky from Wales in 1780.

The Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) established the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in 1999 as a road-trip style experience with 10 major distilleries in the Louisville and Lexington areas. Today, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail is a collection of 18 major bourbon whiskey distilleries (Heritage Distilleries) and 23 smaller and newer microdistilleries (Cra...

In general, distillery tours last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. You’ll get to learn some history and facts about Kentucky bourbon, view a few or all steps of bourbon production, and taste a few of their product offerings.

There are many ways to plan your trip, but here’s our suggested itinerary based on the general area of the distilleries. 1. Days One and Two:Louisville Area: Welcome Center + 6 Louisville distilleries 2. Day Three:Lexington Area: Four Roses, Wild Turkey, Woodford, Town (+ Bulleit) 3. Day Four:Bardstown Area: Bardstown, Lux Row, Heaven Hill, Jim Bea...

Aside from their 18 Heritage distilleries, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tourfeatures 28 smaller but no less excellent distilleries, made to showcase the best of Kentucky craftsmanship and history. The entire trail would take you a minimum of 5 days. I recommend you embark on this journey if you have a lot of time and money to spend (whether you...

You don’t need to take a tour of every distillery.
But if you feel you need to, book a slot ahead of time if you can, especially for the more popular ones.
    Show up early
Decide early on whether you’re taking a tour bus or driving.

    • Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co./ Town Branch (Lexington) $13.78 per person tour and tasting. The Town Branch distillery is small, but it's one of my favorite tasting experiences.
    • Woodford Reserve (Versailles) $32 per person tour and tasting; $25 per person for tasting only; specialty tours and tastings available. Woodford Reserve is like the country club on this distillery tour.
    • Wild Turkey (Lawrenceburg) $11 per person. Note: As of early 2024, The Wild Turkey Visitor Center is temporarily closed for renovations. Tours and tastings are suspended, but you can still make purchases at the Station Master’s House gift shop.
    • Four Roses Distillery (Lawrenceburg) $22 per person tour and tasting; $16 for tasting only. The Four Roses Distillery, unlike most Bourbon Trail stops, doesn’t actually age ANY of their bourbon at this location.
