Saul Bellow (born Solomon Bellows; June 10, 1915 – April 5, 2005) [1] was an American writer. For his literary work, Bellow was awarded the Pulitzer Prize , the 1976 Nobel Prize in Literature , and the National Medal of Arts . [ 2 ]

Saul Bellow finished up his career as he had begun it, by teaching. His final position was at Boston University, where he co-taught a class with James Wood, senior editor at The New Republic. He died on April 5, 2005, at age 89. He is buried at the Jewish cemetery Shir he harim in Brattleboro, Vermont.
