Reeth is a village 11 miles (18 km) west of Richmond in North Yorkshire, England, in the civil parish of Reeth, Fremington and Healaugh. Historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, it is the principal settlement of upper Swaledale.
Reeth is situated in Swaledale, in the north of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This area is known for its iconic farming landscape of field barns and drystone walls amidst beautiful hay meadows. Reeth welcomes locals and visitors and has several excellent cafés, pubs and tea rooms.
Tucked away in the corner of Arkengarthdale and Swaledale, the village of Reeth is an attractive tourist centre with a huge open green that hosts a small but popular market each Friday. Reeth has been described as heaven for cyclists as it has a number of tracks that are ideal for bikes.
Reeth enjoys a magnificent setting on a plateau above the River Swale, surrounded by a great panorama of hills and moors. Today it is the main settlement in Swaledale, but in Norman times, the tiny village of Grinton just to the south, was the most important settlement in the valley.
