Abbey Park is a public park in Leicester, England, through which the River Soar flows. It is owned and managed by Leicester City Council. It opened in 1882 on the flood plain of the River Soar, and expanded in 1932 to include the area west of the river that had formerly been the medieval St Mary's Abbey, still bounded by large medieval walls.

Not far from the city centre Abbey Park is a breath of fresh air. Couple of small parks costing £1 for two hours or for all day on a Sunday. Centred around the river/lake but much more with numerous footpaths, ruins, and a wide range of trees, plants etc.

The park is divided by the river Soar and is both quiet & peaceful as well as picturesque. On the West side are the old abbey ruins which date to the 12th century & the ruins of Cavendish House a 17th-century mansion.
How to get there. The park is easily accessible from the city centre with access from St Margaret’s Way, Abbey Park Road and a bridge from Charter Street over the Grand Union Canal....
