  4. Feb 21, 2021 · ‘The Conjuring’ was filmed in North Carolina, specifically in Wilmington and Currie. Since the film’s story is set in 1971, director James Wan wanted to recreate the feel of a 1970s horror film.

    • The Nun. Setting: 1952. While there are scenes in other Conjuring Universe titles that take place before it, Corin Hardy’s The Nun is featured first on the timeline because the primary events in the story take place before all of the other narratives in the franchise – specifically taking us back to the year 1952.
    • Annabelle Creation. Setting: 1955. As the name of the film implies, David F. Sandberg’s Annabelle Creation is designed as an origin story for its titular character, literally showing how the seriously creepy porcelain toy came into existence.
    • The Nun II. Setting: 1956.
