The university was opened on April 1, 1925, by Arthur Balfour, at an impressive ceremony attended by the High Commissioner, Sir Herbert Samuel, General Allenby, Chaim Weizmann, Hayyim Nachman Bialik, Ahad Ha’am, and Chief Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook.
