Joining the League meant the club soon outgrew their ground behind the Nursery Inn on Green Lane in Heaton Norris and, in 1902, they moved south of the River Mersey to Edgeley Park, then home of Stockport RLFC. County have played there ever since.

Oct 1, 2024 · Stockport County: Returning to the Football League. Returning to League Two for the first time since the 2010/11 season, they gave a perfect account of themselves. A fantastic season saw them finish 4th and secure a playoff spot the first time asking. Dave Challinor had got a tune out of this team.
In 1889 the town of Stockport became a County Borough and the club seized the opportunity to take the town name, changed our name to Stockport County Football Club in 1890. In this season we joined our first organised league called The Combination, playing teams such as Everton Reserves, Macclesfield, Wrexham, Chester and Northwich Victoria.
