The garden at Penshurst Place is one of the most beautiful gardens in England and probably one of the oldest, with records dating from 1346. The existing garden was laid out by Sir Henry Sidney in 1580 and has remained true to his design.
Penshurst Place is a medieval deer park dating from around 1346. The park of 178 hectares surrounds the formal walled gardens of four hectares. The wider estate is 1000 hectares in size.
History. Penshurst Place has been home to the Sidney family since 1552 making it one of the oldest family-owned estates in England. Surrounded by 11 acres of walled formal gardens and housing one of the few surviving medieval Baronial Halls in England, Penshurst Place is an historical gem in the Weald of Kent countryside.
