On 1 August 1998, Moray House Institute of Education merged with the University of Edinburgh becoming its Faculty of Education. Following internal restructuring of the University of Edinburgh in 2002, Moray House became known as the Moray House School of Education .

On 1st August 1998, Moray House Institute of Education became the Faculty of Education of the University of Edinburgh. The move coincided with celebrations of 150 years of teacher training in the Moray House building.
In 1991, the College was reconstituted as Moray House Institute of Education, as the result of a legal agreement with Heriot-Watt University. Under this new arrangement, Moray House's students would be matriculated students of Heriot-Watt, receiving degrees from that university’s Senate.
Moray House celebrates its 150th anniversary and formally merges with the University of Edinburgh, becoming the Faculty of Education at the University of Edinburgh. The name is soon changed to Moray House School of Education.
