History. Bi-Lo was established by John, Peter and David Weeks in South Australia in 1979. The first stores opened at Stirling and Aldgate in South Australia's Adelaide Hills region after being converted from hardware outlets, followed by the acquisition of a third store at Murray Bridge.

Used to work for Bi-Lo, was the budget chain of Coles. In the early 2000s Coles management realised Coles stores were more profitable and had the great idea that if they made Bi-Los into Coles they would get more profit across the board. Turns out budget shoppers want budget prices.
