When Veronika drifts off one morning on a bench at sunrise, Edward believes he has lost her, but his grief transforms to joy when she wakes. Celebrating what they believe might be one more day, the pair embrace and walk happily on the beach in the morning light, laughing and holding hands.
Pretty, single, 24-year-old Veronika decides to die for two reasons, both of them phony: one, because she realizes she will one day be old; and two, because a lot of things are wrong in this world. She then takes a lot of sleeping pills.

Synopsis. A train in New York City carries passengers to work, including Veronika Deklava ( Sarah Michelle Gellar ). We see Veronika walking the streets of Manhattan, working at her job, meeting a young man for a drink afterward, and finally going home.
Veronika does not die, but comes to consciousness in the notorious lunatic asylum, Villete, where she is told by Dr. Igor that her attempt to kill herself, initially unsuccessful, will inevitably succeed. She has damaged her heart to the point where it will be unable to sustain her life for much longer than five days.

After feigning sleeplessness, she collected strong sleeping pills and went about the deed.
Aug 1, 2024 · On the morning of November 11th, 1997, she decides to die. She takes an overdose of sleeping pills, only to wake up some time later in Villete, the local hospital. There she is told that although she is alive now her heart is damaged and she has only a few days to live.
On November 11, 1997, Veronika decided that the moment to kill herself had-at last!-arrived. She carefully cleaned the room that she rented in a convent, turned off the heat, brushed her teeth, and lay down. She picked up the four packs of sleeping pills from her bedside table.
