[1] Runcorn is on the southern bank of the River Mersey, where the estuary narrows to form the Runcorn Gap. It lies on the southern shore of the River Mersey 15 miles (24 km) upstream from the port of Liverpool.
Runcorn is located in the county of Cheshire, North West England, one mile south of the town of Widnes, seven miles south-west of the major town of Warrington, 130 miles north of Cardiff, and 167 miles north-west of London. Runcorn lies three miles south-east of the Merseyside border.
