Established in 1973, Legal Aid Alberta is a publicly funded non-profit legal services provider accountable to the public through the Ministry of Justice and the Law Society of Alberta. LAA provides affordable representation to low-income people on criminal, family, and immigration cases and some free legal services to all Albertans that ensure people’s rights and safety are protected.

The lawyer directory implementation phase began in May 2024 by actively engaging with the roster lawyer community. Roster lawyers are asked to email lawyerportal@legalaid.ab.ca to add or change a listing. To be included in the directory, you must be an active member of the Legal Aid Alberta roster. Client Gateway is a secure online form that lawyers can use to help existing LAA clients apply for additional legal aid coverage. With Client Gateway, existing clients of LAA only have to explain their new charges to you once, whether you are acting as duty counsel or current counsel on other matters. Client Gateway is now available to lawyers.
