Nov 3, 1995 · “Total Eclipse” is a movie something like “Withnail & I” (1987), in that it makes absolutely no attempt to make its abrasive characters palatable. Unlike the brilliant “Withnail,” it lacks any sense of humor, and is under the delusion that its subjects are interesting because they are great poets.
Nov 3, 1995 · A good biographical film about artists should, at the very least, inspire the viewer to learn more about its subjects and the work they created. Total Eclipse has totally the opposite effect, of making one never want to hear about its protagonists again.
