In the beginning, Chadwick was an open-air day and boarding school for 75 students. After the retirement of the Chadwick family in 1963, the school created a board of trustees [2] and in 1968 discontinued its boarding program. In 1972, Chadwick joined the Cum Laude Society. [2]

A generous donation from the Roesslers would fund the first buildings, and in 1938, five boarding students, twenty-three day pupils and six staff members took the ride to the sprawling Palos Verdes hillside where Chadwick School still sits today.
While it’s grown significantly since then, it remains the only K-12 independent co-educational day school in the South Bay area. With a commitment to economic, social and cultural diversity, Chadwick School serves over 860 students from approximately 50 communities throughout greater Los Angeles.
