Anecdotal but Amazon Linux 2 had better performance from our perspective, CI jobs ran 20-30% faster when done on AL2 for us. It is after all, built by Amazon for Amazon. I think the Amazon Linux images are tuned specifically for AWS by Amazon themselves. Canonical does the same to some degree, but ymmv.
