Rutanya Alda was born Rutanja Skrastiņa (Rūta Skrastiņa) in Riga, in German-occupied Latvia, the daughter of Vera (née Ozoliņa), a businesswoman, and Jānis Skrastiņš, a poet. [1]
Alda's husband of almost 30 years, actor Richard Bright was tragically killed after being hit by a tour bus in Manhattan. The couple had one child, a son, Jeremy Bright (born 1988). Rutanya Alda broke into films via Brian De Palma 's experimental movies of the late 1960s.
