Robert Montgomery (born 7th July c. 1972) is a Scottish-born, London-based poet, artist, and sculptor known for his site-specific installations which are created from light and text, as well as his "fire poems".
Robert Montgomery is a British contemporary artist well known for his work in public space. He makes light works, billboard poems, fire poems, paintings and watercolours. His work brings text art closer to the language of poetry. He represented the UK in the 2012 Kochi Biennale and the 2016 Yinchuan Biennale.
- His art hijacks advertising. For the past 10 years, Montgomery has put poetry where adverts should be – and not always legally.
- He speaks to everyone. You don’t need an art history degree to interact with these works. He is interested in the ordinary person at the bus stop. ‘ I think at its best, art is an intimate conversation with strangers,’ he has said. ‘
- He fights the good fight. Montgomery’s work is unashamedly anti-authoritarian. He decries consumerism and aligns himself with the revolutionary Situationists of the 20 century.
- He helps us find the sacred in the mundane. About the uncanny presence of trees in a city, he says: AND THE TREES ARE SENTINELS OF SOMETHING, STANDING THERE BETWEEN THE BUILDINGS BREATHING LIKE HORSES ALL NIGHT.
Robert Montgomery was born in Chapelhall, Scotland, in 1972. He was selected to represent the United Kingdom at the Lyon Biennale of contemporary art (France) in 2011, the Kochi Biennale (India) in 2012, and the Yinchuan Biennale (China) in 2016.

ROBERT MONTGOMERY BOOK. £200.00. “Parrots” is the first book of Robert Montgomery’s work since 2015. It covers all of his work over the last 20 years, from the early guerrilla billboard works in Shoreditch in 2004 up to the major light works for Mons of 2024, which were commissioned by the BAM museum to celebrate 100 years of Surrealism.
