Marcel Varnel (16 October 1892 – 13 July 1947) was a French film director, notable for his career in the United States and England as a director of plays and films.
Marcel Varnel. French-born Marcel Varnel began his film career not in France but in Hollywood, as a 30-year-old in 1924. He left Hollywood for Great Britain in the mid-'30s and began turning out a series of low-budget comedies for Will Hay and George Formby, among others.

Marcel Varnel, born Marcel Hyacinth le Bozec in Paris on 16 October 1892, came to England with experience and gifts that set him apart from most British film directors at work in comedy in the 1930s and 40s.
Marcel Varnel's comedies are the standard by which every British Comedy is judged. If he had only made Oh, Mr Porter! his place in cinema history would be secure, but he made a whole lot more. His early death was a loss.
