Another ancient and most spectacular monument is the Amphitheater of Argos which is believed to be the biggest of them all in Ancient Greece. Rightly so because it had a capacity of twenty thousand spectators and it must have been a jaw-dropping scenery.
The primary economic activity in the area is agriculture. Citrus fruits are the predominant crop, followed by olives and apricots. The area is also famous for its local melon variety, Argos melons (or Argitiko). There is also important local production of dairy products, factories for fruits processing.
Its land's fertility and the extensive biodiversity are the reasons behind its infinite inhabitation. Argos was always an important centre for Greek civilization. This is confirmed by its vast theatre of a capacity of 20,000 spectators, even larger than the famous Theatre of Epidauros.
