Sep 10, 2020 · I’m having issues with my 292 Y block. It sits and idles perfectly, but as soon as you start going it has a bad shake to it. The shake gets worse as rpm’s go up. Here’s a list of things I’ve checked or replaced: compression, timing, plugs wires and rotor, carburetor, fuel pump and filter.

Jul 21, 2015 · I'm a new owner of a 1956 T-bird, unfortunately, it has a 235 Y-block with a bunch of Thunderbird bits bolted on instead of a 292. It has a Holley 4v carb. The current issue is a high idle of almost 1,000 rpms. I figured out how to lower it down to about 600 and it sounded pretty good at that speed.

You can rule out the fuel pump concentric counter weight as being the source of your vibration assuming all the pieces were installed in the correct order. Performing a compression test on all the cylinders will help to verify that the vibration is not being caused by something as simple as a dead or weak cylinder.

Mar 6, 2010 · So the oil passages that went thru the block/heads and up to the rockers became "sludged" and oil flow slowed to a trickle and eventually stopped when the passages became completely clogged. The only REAL fix is a tear down and a complete clean out.
