Located ten miles southwest of St. Louis, Missouri, today’s Webster Groves was an area known to Indians and fur trappers as Dry Ridge until around 1845. Prior to 1802 the land had changed rule from French to Spanish and back to French.
Webster Groves is an inner-ring suburb of St. Louis in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 24,010 at the 2020 census. The city is home to the main campus of Webster University.
Webster Groves lies in an area of St. Louis originally known as Dry Ridge, part of a 6000-acre land grant given to Gregoire Sarpy by the Spanish in 1802. Settlement was sparse until the Missouri Pacific Railroad came through the area in 1853, but in 1854 the Reverend Bullard of St.
Dec 6, 2022 · The area that is today Webster Groves in St. Louis County was populated by the mid-nineteenth century. The Pacific Railroad’s inclusion of stops in Webster brought further growth, and by 1866, the community contained four churches, followed by a public school system two years later.
