The School of Music runs for pupils from S2 onwards. It aims to develop specialist skills in music as well as a range of transferable skills for learning and life through engagement and participation in a variety of music activities.
We follow the core National Curriculum values of Listening, Performing, Singing and understanding Music. In increasing depth, children learn about rhythm, pulse, timbre, dynamics, pitch and structure, through songs and musical activities.
We currently offer individual music lessons from specialist visiting music teachers on the following instruments: piano, violin, flute, saxophone, clarinet, recorder, trumpet and trombone. From September 2023, individual lesson are £220 for 10 x 30 minute lessons
develop an understanding of musical styles and concepts through listening to a wide range of music, including Scottish music, Popular music, Jazz and Film music. They will also develop music theory and literacy skills that will help them read and write music notation.
School of Music Ensembles. Our ensembles are open to all university students, regardless of major. Concert bands, orchestras, choirs, jazz bands/combos, chamber groups, athletic bands, world music ensembles, and more. For all ability levels. Some with no audition required.

Music aims to engage every child at St David’s College and constantly evolves depending on the interests of the pupils. Children are introduced to music as part of the school curriculum, with many progressing to study BTEC Level 2 and 3 in Music.
