Sam Katzman (July 7, 1901 – August 4, 1973) was an American film producer and director. Katzman's specialty was producing low-budget genre films, including serials , which had disproportionately high returns for the studios and his financial backers.

Duel On The Mississippi (1955) isn’t a Western, but it’s pretty close.
The ‘50s and ‘60s saw Sam making Jungle Jim, western, sci-fi and teenage musicals for Columbia, juvenile delinquent films for Columbia and AIP, even Elvis Presley musicals at MGM. Katzman had a way of catching the wave of a fad and grinding out a film before it faded away. The legendary “Jungle Sam” Katzman died August 4, 1973, at 72.
A British release, this film tied together various clips from Lugosi films made for Monogram by Sam Katzman during the early 1940s. A review in the Kinematograph Weekly on March 26, 1959 claimed Lugosi “compered” (meaning “hosted”) the old movie footage. NOTE: For many years, the certainty of this “hosting” could not be verified.
