Newhall is the southernmost and oldest community in the city of Santa Clarita, California. Prior to the 1987 consolidation of Canyon Country, Saugus, Newhall, and Valencia into the city of Santa Clarita, it was an unincorporated area. It was the first permanent town in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The California Gold started. Having only been married for a few weeks, Henry, wanting to be part of the gold rush, sold his part of Newhall and Baker Auctioneers to his partner for $8,000 to raise capital to go to California.

Newhall's Place in California History. Newhall is the cradle of both the oil industry and the gold mining industry. Gold was discovered here six years prior to the discovery at Sutter's mill and in the old days several booming geld camps were in the area.
