Jul 13, 2022 · For 100 years, the Ruth M. Smith Center has been part of the Sheffield community. On Tuesday, staff and residents celebrated with a picnic at the facility. The center “started out as an orphanage,” Board Member Sandra Lindberg said. It later served as a home for troubled youth.

At the very heart of the Ruth M. Smith Center’s mission is a personal care home for the elderly, the disadvantaged, and the challenged citizens of the region. Up to 28 adults reside in three buildings—two ranch style buildings and a 19th century mansion house.
