The Estadio Centenario in Uruguay is the only monument to world football. Inaugurated in 1930, it once again becomes the venue for the greatest sporting event, participating in the celebrations of the opening ceremony of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Estadio Centenario is located in central Montevideo, about 4.5 kilometres east of the old city centre. It lies very close to the Tres Cruces central bus terminal, from where it is a short 10 to 15-minute walk. From the historic centre you can reach the stadium with bus 115 and 143.
It is not close to downtown, is better to take a taxi, or a bus. Very cheap entrance fee (round 5 US$) that admit you to the museum and to the bleachers. The museum is an old style one, with no modern gadgets and fancy things. There are many historical photographs, old uniforms, trophys and so on….

Estadio Centenario is a stadium in the Parque Batlle of Montevideo, Uruguay, used primarily for staging football matches. It is owned by the Montevideo Department. The stadium was built between 1929 and 1930 to host the inaugural 1930 FIFA World Cup, as well as to commemorate the centenary of Uruguay's first constitution.
If you are in Montevideo you must go visit the Estadio Centenario. The visit will take you about 1 hr if you do the whole tour including the tower and the museum. The building is old (built in 1930) but full of history. It was built to host the first World Cup that Uruguay ended up winning.
