- Create a bespoke, built-in unit. One of the most popular entertainment center designs, built-in cabinet ideas for family rooms can cater perfectly to the size of your electronic devices, giving them an eye-catching, elevated platform.
- Use a low level design. Many entertainment center designs are built upwards, making the most of the floor to ceiling wall area in a room. However, low-level designs can create a cozy, intimate feel and free up wall space to allow you to get creative with artwork and other wall decor ideas.

'A simple tip that can help your entertainment center stand out and reflect your style and personality, creating areas that can house decorative objects and meaningful items will only make for a more eye-catching and memorable design,' says Jennifer Ebert, Homes & Gardens' Digital Editor.
- Create a stand-out design. For many of us, sitting around an entertainment center is where we spend a lot of time with friends and family, so why not create a striking, stand-out design that adds a unique feature to a room and ignites conversation.

Paint the wall behind the TV a contrasting color or cover it in a simple wallpaper. A shelf beneath the TVprovides storage for DVRs or video game consoles. When trying shelving design ideas, remember that odd-number...
An entertainment center can be as simple or elaborate as you desire. Modern entertainment centers require sleek lines and minimal decorations. Other design schemes allow for more embellishment. If you have room above the TV for a mirror, it can make the room look larger and brighter. You can also cover the wall behind the shelves with mirrored tile...
A built-in entertainment center takes up an entire wall in a living room. It usually centers the TV in the space, flanked by a bookshelf on each side. Fit a cabinet or cabinet/drawer combination beneath the TV to fill the space between shelves. Traditional entertainment center ideas for built-ins usually include crown molding in various widths. At its core, modern home and furniture design is a rejection of ornate decorating styles. If you are most at home in a modern space, you like minimal details, crisp lines, and simple color palettes. Modern entertainment center ideas will reflect these tastes. Metal is a key feature of modern decor. Use clean, shiny chrome or stainless steel for ent...
An interior designer can help you figure out a custom entertainment center that works for your bedroom. The amount of living space is sometimes limited in a bedroom, so a simple TV stand may be better than a full wall of shelving. However, an entertainment wall combining wardrobe and dresser storage may be the solution. The bedroom is the perfect p...

One of the most common places to put a TV unit is above the fireplace. Therefore, the fireplace becomes part of the overall entertainment center area. Using wood for your home entertainment center doesn’t mean that you’re limited to a large cabinet or armoire. You can use wood to cover the wallbehind your TV and hang a shelf above it. Place a wide, low TV stand beneath the screen and top it with some simple decorations. Using the same color and type of wood for all three elements provides continu...
- Face Seating Away. Try facing couches and chairs toward each other instead of directly at your entertainment center and TV. That encourages more social interaction among your family and house guests and encourages them not to just stare at the TV in silence.
- Cover Wires. Piles of DVDs and tangled cords can instantly make your space look and feel cluttered. Hide them away with cabinet doors on your entertainment center to clean things up a bit.
- Extra Storage. Are you a movie buff? Make room for your collection by adding lots of shelves and drawers for extra storage. If you don’t have enough physical copies of movies to fill them up, add other decorations, like books or sculptures.
- Full Wall Entertainment Center. Build or buy an entertainment center that perfectly fits the width of your room. The shelving systems will look like built-ins, making your home look classically chic.
Jul 6, 2018 · How to DIY a built-in entertainment center with shiplap 1. Assemble the kitchen cabinets. The first step was to build IKEA cabinetry per IKEA instructions. Then, I put them in place and added trim to sides and tops to give it that built-in look. For the sides, I bought some primed 1x4s and cut them to fit. Attached them with L-brackets.
