Jun 17, 2022 · The Beverly Hills mansion where Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel was killed on June 20, 1947, still stands today. Siegel was sitting on a couch inside the set of windows at the bottom right of the house. The shooter was positioned just a few feet outside those windows.
Siegel's death certificate states the cause of death as homicide and the immediate cause as "Cerebral Hemorrage [sic] due to Gunshot Wounds of the Head." Siegel was hit by several other bullets, including shots through his lungs.
His killer attacked from the dark through a window, spraying a burst of automatic fire from a .30-caliber military M1 carbine as Siegel was sitting on a sofa. Accounts of the damage to Siegel are all over the map, but the morgue photos tell the story.
The pressure created by the bullet passing through Siegel’s skull blew his left eye out of its socket. A Los Angeles’ Coroner’s Report (#37448) states the cause of death as cerebral hemorrhage. His death certificate (Registrar’s #816192) states the manner of death as a homicide and the cause as “Gunshot Wounds of the head.”

Jun 20, 2017 · Photos of Siegel’s bloody body were published across the country. The Los Angeles Herald-Express managed to get a picture of Siegel’s nude body in the morgue with a tag attached to his big toe listing his name (with his last name misspelled “Seigel”).
