Alfred Vanderbilt attended the St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire, and Yale University (Class of 1899), where he was a member of Skull and Bones. Soon after graduation, Vanderbilt, with a party of friends, started on a tour of the world which was to have lasted two years.

Early years. Vanderbilt graduated from the Buckley School in New York in 1964. His family traveled extensively and some of his high school years were spent in other countries before graduating from Loyola School in New York. Vanderbilt started a Rock 'n Roll band called The Four Fifths in 1965.
Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt Cornelius II was head of the Vanderbilt family, chairman of the New York Central Railroad, and one of the richest men in the world. He and Alice built the most famous of Newport’s mansions, The Breakers.
