Music has always been at the heart of life at Bryanston and the new music school provides pupils with the flexibility and opportunities to explore and experience a variety of musical genres. The quality of music produced by pupils is outstanding, and we now have a facility that meets the requirements of their talents and hard work.
The quality of the music produced by pupils is outstanding, and many gain places in national and county orchestras, university music departments and music colleges. Many of our former pupils have become distinguished professional musicians, notably Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Mark Elder, Mark Wigglesworth, Robert Saxton, Simon Standage, Amy Carson, Kate Royal, Fiona Cross and Ruth Rogers.
In 2014 Bryanston opened a new multi-million pound music school including the 300-seat Elder Concert Hall, which we use for chorus and production rehearsals, recitals and auditions. The hall was named after former pupil and celebrated conductor Sir Mark Elder CH CBE who is a long time friend of Dorset Opera.
Gateway to Bryanston School Main Hall. In 2014, the school opened a new music building, the Tom Wheare Music School, designed by Hopkins Architects and named after a headteacher of Bryanston. The 300-seat concert hall was named after conductor Sir Mark Elder, who is a former pupil. [6] The interior of the building won a 2015 Wood Award. [7]

Mar 2, 2015 · Hopkins has released new photos of its third scheme for Bryanston School in Dorset - the recently completed Tom Wheare Music School. The 2,500m² red-brick block, which houses a 300-seat recital hall, rehearsal spaces, a library and recording studio, sits next to the school’s grade I-listed Main School Building designed by Norman Shaw.
