Christopher Anthony John Martin is an English singer, songwriter and musician. In Extras, he portrays a fictionalised version of himself in the second season episode 'Chris Martin'; he also performs the closing theme, "Tea For The Tillerman", on the episode.
Martin is best known as the lead vocalist, pianist and co-founder of the rock band Coldplay, with whom he has won several accolades, including seven Grammy Awards and nine Brit Awards. They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide, making them the most successful band of the 21st century and one of the world's best-selling music artists. Martin appeared on Debrett's 2017 list of most influential people in the United Kingdom.
Chris Martin first appears after Andy at the filming of a charity appeal video. He urges that the filming finish as soon as possible because he wants to get home and watch Deal or No Deal? During the filming, he continues suggesting to the producer a promotion of Coldplay's greatest hits album. When she insists against it, he continues to do the appeal video with a branded shirt anyway. He also tells Andy that he is interested on appearing on his sitcom When the Whistle Blows; Andy is hesitant, fearing that a celebrity cameo would seem desperate. However, Darren arranges a day that is suitable for filming with Chris anyway.
On the set of When the Whistle Blows, Chris films his cameo. His appearance is largely dominated by his performance of the Coldplay song "Fix You". Despite Andy's protests that an international music star showing up to a factory in Wigan would make no sense, the episode is sent to air; it eventually leads to the sitcom being nominated for a BAFTA. In the US version of the episode, Chris appears a final time in a post-credits scene, playing "Fix You" again in a duet with Andy's character Ray Stokes.
