There are many reasons to visit Old Stone House & Washington Park! Our beautiful, interactive exhibit about the largest battle of the American Revolutionary War and what it was like to live in Brooklyn from 1776 – 1783. Contemporary exhibits featuring work by emerging artists.
Old Stone House. Originally built by Claes Vechte in 1699, this reconstructed house, with its solid stone walls and high brick gables, is a landmark in American military and sports history. Today it is the center of a vibrant, diverse community of engaged citizens.
Each year, 7,000 students visit the Old Stone House to learn about the Battle of Brooklyn and colonial life. Our programs blend primary source documents, hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning to create an enriching experience for New York’s school children. Support the community.
The Old Stone House is a 1933 reconstruction (using some of the original materials) of the Vechte-Cortelyou House (c.1699-1897) and is located within Washington Park of Park Slope Brooklyn.
