Dolgan, along with its close relative Sakha (Yakut), belongs to the North Siberian subbranch of the Turkic language family. Like most other Turkic languages, Dolgan has vowel harmony, agglutinative morphology, subject-object-verb word order, and lacks grammatical gender.
Dolgan, a close relative of Yakut, which formerly was considered by some a dialect of Yakut, [7] is spoken by Dolgans in Krasnoyarsk Region. Yakut is widely used as a lingua franca by other ethnic minorities in the Sakha Republic – more Dolgans, Evenks, Evens and Yukagirs speak Yakut than their own languages.

Yakut is widely used as a lingua franca by other ethnic minorities in the Sakha Republic – more Dolgans, Evenks, Evens and Yukagirs speak Yakut than their own languages. About 8% of the people of other ethnicities than Yakut living in Sakha claimed knowledge of the Yakut language during the 2002 census. [8] See also: § Orthography. Consonants.
Since then several different versions of the Cyrillic alphabet have been used to write Yakut, and between 1929 and 1939 a version of the Latin alphabet was used. As well as being spoken by ethnic Yakuts, Yakut is used as a lingua franca by Dolgans, Evenks, Evens and Yukagirs in the Sakha Republic.
The Yakut speak Yakut, a Northeast Turkic language of the Altaic Language Family. It is one of the most divergent of the Turkic languages, closely related to Dolgan (a mixture of Evenk and Yakut sometimes described as a Yakut dialect).
