American Guerrilla in the Philippines (released as I Shall Return in the UK) is a 1950 American war film directed by Fritz Lang and starring Tyrone Power as a U.S. Navy ensign stranded by the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II.
“American Guerrilla in the Philippines,” released in 1950, tells the remarkable true story of Lieutenant Iliff David Richardson, who, after surviving the fall of Bataan in 1942, leads a group of American soldiers and Filipino guerrillas behind enemy lines to wage a guerrilla war against the Japanese occupiers.
The guerrillas, whether recruited by or inducted into the battalion, were considered members of the Philippine Army, serving with the Armed forces of the United States. They were paid in what was considered to be guerrilla or emergency currency.
