Hastings (/ ˈheɪstɪŋz / HAY-stingz) is a seaside town and borough in East Sussex on the south coast of England, 24 mi (39 km) east of Lewes and 53 mi (85 km) south east of London. - Hastings Old Town. The wonderfully quaint old quarter, in Hastings’ easternmost valley follows a cosy Medieval layout and has remnants of a wall raised in the 14th century during the 100 Years’ War.
- Battle Abbey. A journey that needs to b made if you want to tap into the history of Hastings, Battle Abbey is a 15-minute drive or train ride. A partial ruin, this Benedictine abbey was erected on the site of the Battle of Hastings in 1070 by the Normans as penance for the slaughter that took place in their conquest of England.
- Alexandra Park. Meandering out to Hastings’ suburbs from the town centre, the 109-acre Alexandra Park has a linear design laid out in the 1870s by Robert Marnock, one of the leading landscapers of the day.

Jul 26, 2024 · Hastings Old Town in East Sussex is my favourite local seaside town. Slightly bohemian, and incredibly artsy, the old town comes with oodles of quirk. A muddle of houses, ancient churches, shops and a multitude of pubs sit tucked between two cliffs a fifteen-minute walk east of Hastings main town.
Gazing over the English Channel, Hastings mixes black-tarred fishing huts with pebbly shores, Victorian architecture, and artsy shops that together draw boho travellers and families in search of seaside holidays. With a maritime museum, castle ruins, and a notable battle site, it’s also rich in history. Read more.
