Those expecting FIFA 18 to reinvent the wheel may be disappointed. However, there are many quality of life improvements that help make the game feel like an improvement over last years’ installment.
New to FIFA, you can now enable quick subs in Team Management before a game. Then, during a break in play, you can use the right trigger to open the quick sub suggestions then accept the options you pre-selected.
Now, you can modify crosses in a number of different ways Use the bumpers to modify your crosses, while taking advantage of double and triple taps introduced in previous installments in the franchise.
In addition to the slide tackle, players can now use Triangle/Y to use a Hard Tackle. This maneuver launches your player into a tackle attempt, no matter the circumstances. This supersedes the natural inhibitions the game places on tackling next to players.
The transitions for Jogging and slow dribbling are way more fluid. Using proficient dribblers now makes a difference when bursting into a sprint while maintaining ball control.
As with every new year of FIFA, most of the visuals have been improved. Facial features, stadium presence, and player movement have seen increased performance across the board. Now, when entering Career mode transfers, cutscenes play out the negotiations of trading and buying players.
Several new experiences have been added to FUT. Now, players can partake in squad battles, pitting their team against any number of community-composed squads from around the world for great rewards. Additionally, a new Champions channel and additional objectives have been added with the promise of more FIFA coins and card pack rewards.
- Varied team styles. FIFA 18 is adding new team styles to the franchise, with examples such as tiki-taka and high press cited so far. We're hopeful CPU sides will be able to take advantage of this feature, too, adding more diversity to offline gameplay in the process.
- Presentation improvements. The power of the Frostbite engine is being utilised this year to improve presentation in a big way. The atmosphere in FIFA 18's stadiums look set to receive a huge overhaul, with improved crowds, commentary and many more improvements on the way.
- Authentic player personalities. FIFA 18 will incorporate improved player personalities. In layman's terms, this means that players should behave with more authentic traits both on and off the ball, with EA highlighting 'Ronaldo’s signature sprint, Sterling’s unique turns, and Griezmann's technique' as examples.
- Enhanced dribbling. FIFA 17's dribbling mechanics often feel unbalanced, particularly in online situations. Fortunately, a dribbling overhaul is planned for later this year, allowing players to "inject more creativity into 1v1 situations."
