  1. May 18, 2021 · 18 May 2021 at 10:32AM. Morning all, Little to my surprise someone in my household organised a meeting with a sales rep from Project Solar and I've read so many negative reviews online. They signed the contract but there is a 14 day cooling off period so I am doing my research. I wanted to get your opinion on the costs with my offer.

This false advertising purely relates to panel sizes, and claiming that a panel is rated to a higher wattage than what it actually is. I’ll give you an example: The panel I’m chasing is 200W, and I know that a 200W panel should be 1580mm long, by 808mm wide. Now, I jump on eBay, and I flick through the results, and open a few different options up. ...

12V mono solar panels with a cell efficiency of around 17- 20% should be roughly 0.0064m2 per watt. If there is a substantial variance from that, you are being misled. With that in mind, here’s roughly the sizes you should be looking at: 80W panel = 0.51m2 100W panel = 0.64m2 120W panel = 0.77m2 150W panel = 0.96m2 160W panel = 1.02m2 200W panel = ...

Unfortunately, the false advertising doesn’t stop there. The next most common false advertising for 12V solar panels relates to the type of regulator used, and advertised. These are normally known as PWM and MPPT. The latter is generally considered the premium style, and the manufacturing costs dictate there should be a price difference. If you are...

People have been buying solar panels off eBay for many, many years now. Many of the cheap ones are not going to be comparable in quality to the high end units, but they have proven themselves to be reasonable and great value for money. However, its buyer beware; do your due diligence before handing your cash over to some scumbag on the other side o...

I personally know a huge number of people who’ve bought panels that were advertised as being a much higher wattage, and it makes my blood boil. Have you been ripped off too? Let us know below in the comments! Sharing is caring!

  2. Jun 13, 2019 · I recently purchased solar panels on ebay and was shocked when I measured their output. The panels were 300w and the best output I could get (measured) was 150w. These panels are 0.97 square meters each. I did some research and was shocked that nearly all the panels on ebay lie about their power output.

  3. Aug 24, 2021 · More than half of solar panel owners in our survey have been approached by a cold caller. Some were trying to sell them something unnecessary or even claiming something likely untrue. The most common cold calls about solar panels were: Offering a free health check for the solar panels; Selling an optimiser or voltage optimiser

    • Deceptive Free Solar Panel Ads. If you’ve been exploring home solar options, you’ve likely encountered ads on platforms like Facebook or YouTube claiming free solar panels.
    • False Urgency: Programs Ending Soon Claims. Beware of solar salespeople claiming that special programs are ending soon to pressure you into a quick decision.
    • Utility Company Impersonation by Salespeople. Unfortunately, some solar salespeople impersonate utility company representatives, using misleading words to gain trust.
    • Immediate Sign-Up Pressure: Limited-Time Deals. Similar to the tactic of expiring programs, be wary of the solar panel companies to avoid scams where salespeople pressure you into signing immediately for a limited-time deal.
  4. Nov 2, 2019 · There are quite a few fraudulent solar panel listings on Ebay. I can spot them because I'm a physicist, but plenty of listings that are clearly advertising more wattage for their panels than is physically possible with present technology. If I flag them when I see them, will they get pulled? How do we self police this?
